Fico Expects New Foreign Investors to Bring €3 Billion to Slovakia

Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) - Foreign investors are expected to bring over €3 billion to Slovakia, as "we've created favourable conditions", Prime Minister Robert Fico said during Question Hour in Parliament on Thursday.

A total of 16 companies should enter the Slovak market, namely from Belgium, the United Kingdom and the USA. The companies are expected to invest some €300 million, with 2,000 to 4,000 jobs being created – mainly in the Nitra, Zilina and Kosice regions.

The companies will place their investments mainly into logistics and light industry. "This may make the structure of our economy more varied, which is particularly good news for Slovakia, as it (Slovakia) has become focused on certain kinds of products."

A total of €2.4 billion will be invested via 87 projects that the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) is currently working on. The projects should bring jobs to 13,000 people.

The Economy Ministry is engaged in talks with other foreign investors as well. "Their projects have the capacity to create nearly 4,000 jobs, while they want to invest more than €850 million," said Fico.
