SMK Urges Fico to Settle Costs Incurred by Patriot Act's Implementation

Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) - Ethnic-Hungarian SMK party is calling on Prime Minister Robert Fico to use funds from the Government's and the Prime Minister's reserves to pay for the costs incurred by local administrations and schools during the implementation of the Patriot Act, Eva Dunajska of SMK's press department told TASR on Thursday.

"SMK cautions that both sub-chapters of the 2010 budget include a disproportionate amount of funds that are de facto decided upon by Prime Minister Robert Fico," said Dunajska.

That's why she recommends that mayors and school headmasters turn to Government Office to cover the costs incurred by the legislation okayed by the House on Tuesday.

Education Minister Jan Mikolaj said on Wednesday that the ministry won't provide any funding to schools around the country in relation to the application of the newly-adopted Patriot Act, adding that schools will not face any sanctions for not obeying the law.

According to Mikolaj, no high costs are expected within schools' economies vis-a-vis the use of the state symbols, the lyrics of the national anthem, and the Constitution's preamble. Also, Mikolaj says he doesn't see the anthem's playback as a technical problem, and the ministry is not preparing any special set of instructions in this initiative to promote patriotism.
