Freso: Company Car of BSK Official Targetted by Mafia

Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) - The company car of Bratislava regional authority (BSK) office director Bystrik Zak, which was burnt out early on Thursday, was the target of a mafia attack, Bratislava governor Pavol Freso (SDKU-DS) said later on the same day.

Freso called on the police to find the culprit and stop such incidents. The governor added that this was the third attack against BSK officials.

The police have confirmed that two cars were set alight by an unknown offender in Bratislava early on Thursday.

SDKU-DS vice-chair Lucia Zitnanska said that Thursday's incident is one in a series of attacks, with too many "accidents" within a short period. She noted that the car of an SDKU candidate for member of Bratislava regional parliament was burned during the election campaign in the autumn. "We have a well-founded suspicion that it's related to his political activities," said Zitnanska.

Freso announced that he will contact Interior Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) about the matter, and supported Zitnanska's claims that politicians from SDKU, including himself, are being monitored by the underworld.

"I've zero understanding for rackets. And these practices are a clear signal that representatives of the public have good reasons to be afraid. We aren't in Colombia, or Sicily, where politicians are being hijacked," said Freso.
