Rome/Bratislava, March 3 (TASR) - Cases involving child abductions by one of its parents between Slovakia and Italy were addressed at a meeting between Slovak Justice Minister Viera Petrikova and her Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano in Rome on Wednesday, TASR was told by spokesman for the Slovak ministry Michal Jurci later in the day.
Both officials concurred on the need for closer ties between the two countries on this issue.
A total of five Italy-Slovakia cases are pending. "They're highly delicate cases, with both countries bound by international agreements and conventions. Even though the (Slovak) Justice Ministry has no powers in executing measures in the area of child abductions by a parent, we've drafted a legislative change facilitating speedier proceedings and ensuring law enforceability," said Petrikova.
As well, Petrikova gave thanks to Alfano for his information and expert advice concerning legislation on proving the origin of one's property as well as in issues concerning the role of notaries public.
