Angyal Will Remain Chairman of Public Procurement Office

Bratislava, March 2 (TASR) - Public Procurement Office (UVO) chairman Bela Angyal will remain on his post even after his five-year term of office expires, as the Slovak Parliament passed an amendment to the Act on Public Procurement on Tuesday.

The legislation in question, containing an amending proposal drawn up by MP Peter Pelegrini (Smer-SD), doesn't specify the exact date on which Angyal's chairmanship will terminate. "For the sake of preventing confusion and chaos, the proposal suggests to have the incumbent Chairman head up UVO even after his original term of office expires - until a new chairman is appointed," says the Pelegrini's proposal.

According to SDKU-DS parliamentary caucus Chairman Stanislav Janis, there are political reasons behind extending Angyal's tenure. "The Public Procurement Act has been changed on purpose, so that UVO chairman can continue covering up the shady tenders of this Government," Janis said.

"What you're doing is a 'thief shouts thief!' strategy," Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny (Smer-SD) said in reaction to Janis's statements.
