Meciar Prefers Coalition With Just HZDS, SNS Wants to Stay in Frame

Bratislava, March 2 (TASR) - While the Slovak National Party (SNS) would prefer the future coalition to remain in its current form after the general election in June, I would get along fine with only one coalition partner - Smer-SD, said LS-HZDS chairman Vladimir Meciar on Tuesday.

"If this isn't possible, let Smer choose the third party," said Meciar after a Coalition Council meeting.

"We like you and the whole of HZDS," said SNS vice-chair Anna Belousovova in reaction, expressing her conviction that this electoral term has been a successful one for Slovakia. According to her, there is no reason not to repeat it. "What prevents us from doing so?" she asked.

Belousovova said that she can hardly imagine co-operating with opposition parties and definitely not with SDKU-DS, which she called hypocritical. According to her, SDKU chairman Mikulas Dzurinda is trying to hide behind the party's newly-elected election leader Iveta Radicova.
