Bratislava, March 1 (TASR) - Slovakia imports only small amounts of electricity from Ukraine that don't influence the Slovak electricity network, said Slovak Economy Ministry spokesman Branislav Zvara said on Monday in response to a cut-off in electricity supplies from Ukraine to Slovakia, Hungary and Romania that is expected to be in place for at least one month.
"The (cut-off in electricity supplies) hasn't caused us any problems in running the electricity distribution network. Electricity imported from the part of Ukraine that is synchronously connected to the European energy network represents only a small part of the overall consumption in Slovakia," TASR was told by Slovak Electricity Transmission System (SEPS) communication director Igor Gallo.
Kiev said that the cut in electricity exports to the aforementioned three countries is due to a coal shortage in Ukraine.
