Struggle Between Ivan Miklos and Iveta Radicova Is Over

Bratislava, February 27 (TASR) - The struggle between Ivan Miklos and Iveta Radicova for the No. 1 spot on the SDKU-DS party's parliamentary elections slate is over.

Polling stations have been closed at 5.00 PM, and the counting of votes has commenced in 381 districts. A total of 5,453 SDKU-DS members had the opportunity to cast their votes.

SDKU-DS spokesman Martin Matko confirmed for TASR that the election took place without any incidents, with official election results set to be announced on Sunday morning (February 28).

According to party statutes, the slate leader is entitled to hold talks with the party leadership on future coalition alliances prior to a parliamentary election, and negotiate the forming of a new government with representatives from other political parties after the election. Radicova and Miklos concur that SDKU-DS rules out any co-operation with Smer-SD.

"I think it will be really close. But regardless of who wins, the two of us are part of a team - with all of our colleagues. SDKU-DS has never been an one-man party," said Miklos.

"This competition won't be about winners and losers. It's about forming a strong team to lead SDKU-DS into the parliamentary election. I, for one, look forward to co-operation with Ivan in any shape or form," said Radicova, adding that there's no conflict within the ranks of SDKU-DS.

SDKU-DS's Presidium along with individual party's regional structures and organisations have nominated some 150 persons for the candidacy election list. It has become clear that in the next parliament, SDKU-DS won't be represented by three current MPs - Ferdinand Devinsky, Pavol Prokopovic and Jan Pataky - as well as its former members Lubos Michel, Juraj Liska and Martin Kuruc.

On the other hand, as members of the party Presidium, Lucia Zitnanska, Eugen Jurzyca, Milan Hort, Jana Dubovcova, Kamil Homola, Tatiana Rosova, Stefan Kuzma, Stanislav Janis, Jozef Mikus, Ivan Stefanec, Miroslav Beblavy, Viliam Novotny, Pavol Kubovic and Jaroslav Ivanco enjoy a guaranteed spot on the candidacy list.
