Bratislava, February 26 (TASR) - The electronic road-toll collection on the first-class roads will be introduced again as of March 1 (Monday), Transport Ministry spokesman Stanislav Jurikovic said on Friday. Transporters of the unregistered UNAS association expected such a decision, yet they still disagree with it.
On February 24 (Wednesday), UNAS sent a request to the Ministry, saying they'd like to take part in Friday's talks involving representatives of the Transport Ministry, CESMAD transporters association and the National Highway Company (NDS). "They wrote us back that we can meet with an official from the Ministry's road department on Friday at 2.00 p.m., yet we can't be present at the meeting in question," Jaroslav Polacek from UNAS told TASR.
On Thursday, TASR learned from Jurikovic that UNAS won't take part in the negotiations, as the Ministry already had its work group assembled for the road-toll issue.
UNAS didn't come to the proposed meeting at 2 p.m. Friday. "We've done a great deal of work for the transport companies and Slovakia. Toll-users will continue to monitor and offer observations on the road-toll system, because the problems with toll collection are kept under wraps," said Polacek, adding that UNAS will maintain its role in the sector.
The electronic road-toll system was introduced on January 1, 2010. However, the toll collection on the first-class roads has been suspended since January 14 due to the protests of the transporters, but the highways and expressways are still subject to toll collection. Over the course of 47 days, estimated losses in revenue caused by toll suspension have amounted to €150,000-200,000 per day.
