Bratislava, February 26 (TASR) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Slovakia in early April will have a deep symbolic significance, as it marks the 65th anniversary of Bratislava's liberation from Nazi occupation by the Red Army (April 4, 1945), Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak told journalists on Friday.
Lajcak stressed that apart from the symbolic value, the visit will also have an economic dimension, as Medvedev will be accompanied by several members of the Russian Government.
Prime Minister Robert Fico announced at the same press conference that the talks in Bratislava should include the issue of constructing a cyclotron centre in Bratislava and the broad-gauge railway across Slovakia, and co-operation in upgrading military equipment. Fico said he deems the planned visit to be immensely important, pointing to Russia as a country with huge potential.
The visit was agreed upon by foreign affairs ministers Sergei Lavrov (Russia) and Miroslav Lajcak (Slovakia) last September.
