Bratislava, February 26 (TASR) - Police announced on Friday that the biggest tax fraud in Slovakia's modern history has been uncovered, with €235 million involved.
According to Police Corps President Jan Packa, a group of 14 people (aged 35-58) have so far been accused of committing tax fraud. "The group was set up in 2006 by three of them, and others joined later," he said. They are accused of siphoning off excessive VAT deductions, and for this purpose more than 30 companies were established wherein the accused figured as people in charge.
"In tax offices they falsely declared purchases of commodities, namely copper, zinc and other metals for which they gained at least €44,808,715," informed Packa. "Interesting is the fact that it was a woman who was the boss in the group," he added.
