Bratislava, February 25 (TASR) - Old-age pensioners may well receive a so-called 13th pension in 2010, with the payment expected to replace the Christmas bonus, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced after conducting an inspection at the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry on Thursday.
"The Christmas bonus will possibly have been transformed (into a 13th pension cheque) by December. Funds for this payment in 2010 have been set aside," said the premier.
He also hinted that the Christmas pension should be higher "by a few euros" compared to previous years. The date of pensions' valorisation, which is currently set at January 1 of each year, is also to be changed, added Fico.
In line with rules on Christmas bonuses paid out in December 2009, the level of the bonus was weighted – more for recipients of low pensions than for those receiving higher amounts.
Seniors receiving no more than 20 percent of the national average salary (or €144.70 per month) were given a €66 bonus. Pensioners on 40 percent (€289.3) of the average salary received €58, while those on 60 percent (€433.9) got €49.8.
