Bratislava, February 25 (TASR) - Slovakia will spend €9.7 million on organising and conducting this year's general election, including €7.95 million that will be covered by the Interior Ministry and €1.76 million by the Statistics Office, according to the Interior Ministry's draft arrangements plan that was approved by the Government on Thursday.
The 2010 election date was set by Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska as Saturday, June 12. Political parties intending to run are required to register their candidate lists in the Electoral Committee Recorder by March 14, or 90 days prior to the election. At the same time, parties will have to pay a deposit of €16,596.
Parties are allowed to form coalitions and hand in joint lists of up to 150 candidates, which equals the number of lawmakers in Parliament.
The candidate lists can include the names of anyone who will be at least 21 years of age on the day of the election, is a permanent resident of Slovakia, and is not in prison or debarred for any other legal reason.
