Lucenec, February 24 (TASR) - The Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) is to take part in an anti-government rally that should take place at SNP Square in Bratislava on Thursday, but drivers won't block the roads in Slovakia's capital with lorries, TASR was told by UNAS organisation committee member Jaroslav Polacek on Wednesday.
"We'll support the gathering of the initiative 'We Like This Country' (as the Government) has brought about an atmosphere of uncertainty for us and our families. Several drivers lost their jobs and there is a good reason to suppose that it's just over their active participation in past protest actions," said Polacek.
According to Polacek, UNAS refuses to expose its common members to victimisation by the state, with the police haunting hauliers over weekends and forcing them to sign confessions of violating the law on transport on road communications during the massive protests that took place in January.
"The justifiability of the strike was confirmed with the postponement of collecting the toll on the 1st category roads, through which its unpreparedness and dysfunctionality was proven. Certain information about hauliers has leaked, and we have circumstantial evidence that blackmailing of hauliers is taking place via state and private companies exhorting them not to take part in the protest tomorrow," said Polacek.
