Talks Begin on Slovakia Accepting Ten Illegal Immigrants From Malta

Bratislava, February 24 (TASR) - Slovakia in 2010 will accept ten illegal immigrants who have asked for asylum in Malta, TASR was told on Wednesday by Lucia Gajarova from the communications department of the Slovak Interior Minister's Office.

The first talks on re-locating the immigrants to Slovakia are taking place at the moment in Malta, which is a transit country for almost 2,000 illegal migrants heading from Africa for Europe, said Gajarova.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which announced in October of last year that Slovakia would accept immigrants, Slovakia is taking part in a pilot EU project, according to which EU-member states are supposed to show solidarity and help countries that have come under the most pressure from illegal migration by accepting a number of them.
