Petrol Prices to Go Up by 2 Cents, Diesel Prices to Remain Flat

Bratislava, February 23 (TASR) - Petrol prices in Slovakia will rise as of Wednesday (February 24), Tomas Novotny from the www.natankuj.sk website said on Tuesday.
Petrol will rise by an average of 2 cents per litre, while diesel prices shouldn't change. The average price of petrol will increase to just half a cent below €1.20 per litre, while the average price of diesel will stay at €1.005 per litre, increasing the price gap between the two most popular fuels to 19 cents per litre.
Novotny attributes this to the price of oil rising by $7 per barrel, which has had an impact on fuel prices on world markets.
The Rotterdam stock market saw petrol prices climb by 9 percent over the course of last week, with an increase of €0.03 per litre. "And as developments on international markets don't favour a drop in prices much, Slovak retailers have chosen to react by increasing petrol prices," said Novotny.
Although diesel prices have gone up by the same amount as those of petrol at Rotterdam, this process has had no effect on diesel prices in Slovakia so far. Novotny expects that diesel will become more expensive next week as well, however.
