Bratislava, February 22 (TASR) - The living standards of one-third of Slovaks has worsened over the past four years, while one in five people have seen an improvement, suggests the latest survey carried out by the Polis Slovakia agency.
According to the results of the survey, which was carried out between February 18-21 on a sample of 1,071 respondents aged over 18, as many as 54 percent claim that the current Government has failed to respond sufficiently to the negative impacts of the economic crisis, while only 30 percent say that the Government's performance in fighting the crisis has been good. In addition, the survey revealed that people see corruption and cronyism as the heaviest burden vis-a-vis applying correct social policies.
Another 45.5 percent of the respondents think that seeking the most suitable solutions in social policies has been most seriously affected by the economic crisis, while 44.7 percent of those asked blamed the flaws in the social sphere on the wasting of public money in general. Nearly one-third of the respondents said that the social situation is largely complicated by the high level of taxes and deductions.
