Bratislava, February 21 (TASR) - German entrepreneurs doing business in Slovakia are concerned at the level of corruption in the host country, Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry spokesperson Markus Halt told TASR in an interview.
"Of course, it is far lower than in Romania or Bulgaria (the newest European Union members) but it does spell a severe problem – notably in the public sector," he said.
But Slovakia, according to him, remains an attractive site for doing business and German investors judge it very positively due to the relatively low taxation rate and the country's eurozone membership.
In order to maintain competitiveness in the years ahead, Halt said Slovakia should focus on employees' professional training, which is geared to the current needs of the labour market.
The Slovak-German commercial chamber includes 300 member firms with a combined annual turnover of €15 billion and 74,000 staff. The main focus is on the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, and metal-working.
