Bratislava, February 19 (TASR) - Alternate Foreign Minister of Greece Dimitris Droutsas met on Friday with his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajcak for talks which were largely focused on the most recently deteriorating financial problems of the visitor's country.
Slovakia is confident that measures taken by Greece's government will help that country overcome its current financial difficulties, said Lajcak at the following news conference.
"I have expressed confidence in the Greek government and economy's ability to overcome its temporary troubles and restore full trust in the system," Lajcak told journalists in voicing support for his Greek colleague.
Droutsas described Lajcak's pronouncements as a very important declaration of solidarity. "What we need the most from our European partners is a strong political message of trust and credibility in Greek government vis-a-vis international markets," he said.
The Greek visitor, at the same time, gave assurances to Lajcak that his country will take necessary actions to solve its predicament.
Greece is grappling with severe financial problems, which has topped the agenda of the recent informal summit of European Council in Brussels. The euro-using Greece has a government debt exceeding 100 percent of Gross Domestic Product.
