Bratislava, February 19 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Friday that he gets up early every morning to watch the ice-hockey action at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver as he is particularly fond of this sport.
Fico was speaking after the Slovak players overcame the strongly-fancied Russians 2:1. "Of course, I follow ice-hockey every morning ... what else can I do when I love ice-hockey. Today's result is fantastic, precisely what Slovakia needs. We must give people confidence and pride," he said.
The premier maintains that the gold and silver medals won so far in Vancouver are a tremendous success, and that it is the collective task of the Slovak nation to broadcast both good and bad news. "There is bad news too, the world is not exactly the best one, but it just can't be the case that 99.9 percent is bad, lurid and outrageous and that we should forget ... that there are hard-working people with outstanding results," he stressed.
Meanwhile, Defence Minster Jaroslav Baska said that he was pleased to learn that the Dukla Banska Bystrica military sports centre in central Slovakia is so well-equipped that it was able to attract Russian-born biathlonist Anastasia Kuzmin, who has won the two aforementioned medals for Slovakia. "I think that Slovakia is currently thriving on two sports disciplines - canoe slalom and the biathlon. We'll do our utmost to bring conditions at Dukla Banska Bystrica truly up to standard." he said.
