Fico May Visit Switzerland in March and Wants to Speak about Accounts

Bratislava, February 18 (TASR) - The planned trip of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to Switzerland, which was announced two weeks ago in order to obtain more details on Swiss bank account holders, could take place in early March, Fico confirmed at a news conference in Bratislava on Thursday.

Fico said he would get in touch with Swiss President Doris Leuthard before he makes the visit, the date of which should then be definitely set.

"I will speak about the contents of the visit, during which I want to focus on bilateral affairs ... but surely, part of the visit will be devoted to information exchange concerning bank accounts in Switzerland," said the premier.

Fico revealed his plans to visit Switzerland in media recently, saying he would seek ways to draft a new legal framework allowing the exchange of bank account-related information. He said he would do so in the wake of what he called "a shady party financing" of the strongest opposition SDKU-DS, a hot-button political issue in which several links to tax havens and peculiar banking arrangements have been raised.
