Extraordinary Session on SDKU-DS Financing Not Proposed Yet

Bratislava, February 18 (TASR) - At the moment on the agenda of the Slovak Parliament, there's no sign of an extraordinary parliamentary session to deal with the non-transparent financing of the strongest opposition party SDKU-DS – the case that has taken the political world by storm as the June 12 general election edges closer.

"I'm only allowed to act in line with the law, and such a thing has to be proposed firstly. No-one has done so to date," said Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska in the wake of an MPs gremium on Thursday.

Commenting on the idea of having a session dealing with party financing in general, leader of SDKU-DS caucus Stanislav Janis said he and his colleagues would "get ready for it properly", promising a "sweltering" session.

The agenda of the upcoming regular parliamentary session, which is set to begin March 2, includes, among other things, the votes on a new setup of the Slovak Land Fund Council, the Slovak Television Council and the Slovak Radio Council.

Lawmakers are also set to go through the items leftover from the previous session - for example, the report on pandemic vaccines and the unfinished discussion on the bill to boost patriotism.

Also, the broadly-discussed Government bill on origin of property disclosure is currently in the legislative process, the proposed version of which is being criticised by co-ruling LS-HZDS. One of its main beefs is the so-called burden of proof being placed on the accused.
