UNAS: Fico Should Have Sacked People and Penalised SkyToll

Bratislava, February 17 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico, who made an inspection visit at the Transport Ministry on Tuesday, should have sacked certain people that are responsible for the botched road-toll system and also should have dealt with sanctions against the toll provider SkyToll, Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) said on Wednesday.

The most serious problem of the system is, according to UNAS, terrifying of the 1st category roads. UNAS claims that nobody is currently able to verify whether the terrifying is accurate, as the system can't be actually checked before the fees are accounted, which could take months.

UNAS is convinced that hauliers will become guinea pigs after the system is re-launched, and SkyToll will be showered with complaints.

Fico announced Tuesday that the road-toll system for lorries will be launched again within the next few days. Prior to the re-launch, however, Fico has scheduled a meeting with representatives of road hauliers next Monday.

UNAS insists on its demand to reduce the length of the tariffed category 1 roads to 333 kilometres from the current 1,500 kilometres, or the re-launch should be delayed until all problems with it are resolved.
