Holic, February 17 (TASR) - Private companies will be allowed to offer postal services on deliveries weighing up to 50 grams as of 2013, but the state-run Slovak Post remains the only provider of this service until that time, Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Lubomir Vazny said following a Government session in Holic (Trnava region) on Wednesday.
The Government has to loosen up the postal market following reservations made by the European Commission. The Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry came up with the amended legislation on postal services in late 2009. The bill is reported to include comments raised by the European Commission.
"It'll be discussed by the Government within two months, and then the Parliament has to adopt it," said Vazny.
A new aspect of the legislation is that private companies entering the market will have to financially contribute to partially compensate Slovak Post's costs in relation to its obligation to provide universal postal services.
