Bratislava, February 17 (TASR) - Interior Minister Robert Kalinak respects the Public Procurement Authority's powers to scrap its tender procedure to buy 1,800 breathalysers over discriminatory terms but does not think that the ministry has been as culpable as claimed by the authority, he has said.
Pravda daily reported on Wednesday that the ministry had chosen the most expensive bid, offering devices at €1,000 a piece more than the second highest offer.
As for the ministry's tender conditions that the seller be manufacturer, importer or an authorised dealer and have two regional servicing centres, Kalinak said that the purchase is a highly serious matter. The results of the devices purchased will serve as evidence before the courts when revoking a driving licence, he explained, stating the breathalysers are "not staplers".
