Bratislava, February 15 (TASR) - The total incomes of health-insurance companies reached €3.4 billion in 2009, which represents year-on-year growth of €151.2 million or 4.62 percent, head of the Health Care Supervisory Authority (UDZS) Richard Demovic announced at a press conference on Monday.
Compared to health-insurance companies' planned budgets, total profits rose by €44.9 million last year. This figure includes an increase in the assets of state health-insurer Vseobecna Zdravotna Poistovna by more than €65.5 million, however. When this amount is subtracted, insurers ended up in the red to the tune of around €20 million.
A drop in the collection of insurance fees, caused especially by the global economic crisis, was observed for employees, employers and the self-employed, resulting in health-insurance companies collecting €17.3 million less than planned.
