Fico: We've Done Much in Terms of Energy, EcoMin Has Met Obligations

Bratislava, February 15 (TASR) - Energy issues have gained great importance for the current Government and this is how things should stay in the next term of office as well, said Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday when assessing an inspection day at the Economy Ministry.
According to Fico, the importance of energy issues is growing across the whole European Union, and these should be crucial for the post-Lisbon 2020 development strategy, which is currently being prepared. "When scrutinising the Government Manifesto, I really can't say that the Economy Ministry has forgotten or ignored anything. All tasks have been carried out without interruption. I'll be very glad if the Economy Ministry is assessed especially from the point of view of energy, in which we've done a lot of work in favour of Slovakia's energy sphere," said Fico.
Fico praised Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek for his stance on the Government's priority - building up a social state. "What I appreciate about the Economy Ministry is that it's understood the term 'a strong state', especially in the form of outstanding regulatory and controlling roles, which should be carried out by the state at this time, especially in terms of energy issues," said Fico.
According to him, if the ministry hadn't engaged in various legislative adjustments and strengthened its regulatory powers, the current Government could hardly have managed to keep energy prices stable, which at the same time would have had an impact on Slovakia's ambitions to join the eurozone.
If plans for creating new energy sources are met, Slovakia will again be able to export electricity in 2013, as it did several years ago until the Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant (Trnava region) was closed. This aim should be secured by the completion of the 3rd and 4th reactor blocks at Mochovce nuclear power plant (Nitra region), as well as a new energy source at Jaslovske Bohunice.
