UNAS Remains in Strike Alert and Files Lawsuits

Zvolen, February 13 (TASR) - The Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) remains in strike alert. UNAS representatives on Saturday decided to organise the next protest on February 25 in Bratislava.

"We've agreed that UNAS is a legitimate and liable organisation. We won't be fighting the (state) power, but we remain in strike and we are awaiting the declaration from the Slovak Government and from Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico," Jaroslav Polacek from UNAS told TASR on Saturday. Polacek said the hauliers will protest in Bratislava and they will go on with their information and petition campaign concerning the introduction of the road-toll system.

About 120 members agreed on filing 18 lawsuits and complaints, addressed to the general secretary of the European Commission, as well as to the Public Procurements Office (UVO). "There is another 18 complaints that we are still processing. They also concern the police intervention at the Triblavina lay-by, in Presov and in Trstena (Zilina region). By the end of February, we will submit those to the Prosecutor-General's Office, Slovak Trade Inspectorate (SOI) and the Slovak Constitutional Court," stated Polacek.

At the meeting, UNAS also amended its statutes, electing a board consisting of five members - Jaroslav Polacek, Rudolf Pales, Jana Sarvasova, Jan Ilas and Marek Bublinec.
