Csaky: Government Wants To Deceive Clients of Non-Banking Institutions Again

(Slovak Radio, February 13, 'Sobotne dialogy')

Ethnic-Hungarian party SMK MPs plan to compensate the clients of the non-banking institutions by submitting a new law proposal to Parliament, said SMK chairman Pal Csaky on the Slovak Radio's politics discussion programme Sobotne Dialogy ('Saturday Dialogues') on Saturday.

"My colleagues are appalled by the situation...that the current governing Coalition - mainly Prime Minister Robert Fico - wants to lie to these people for the second time," said Csaky.

According to Csaky, these people are partly responsible for the current situation themselves, because they allowed it to be fooled by a pyramid scheme. He also admitted that it was mainly the state's control which failed in connection to the non-banking financial institutions. But on the other hand, Csaky claimed that SMK sees that before the last parliamentary elections in 2006, Fico promised the deceived people to give them back the money that they lost. This promise was also embedded in his government's programme, noted Csaky.

"Now we're giving the coalition MPs the opportunity to vote for their own programme," added Csaky.

Coalition LS-HZDS MP Miroslav Jurena, also on the show, thinks that this case cannot be closed in a normal way. According to him, the former Government of Mikulas Dzurinda did not act as it was supposed to. "There's Sk17 billion (€564 million) that have been so to say lost back then, but the money has to be somewhere," he stated. Jurena said that LS-HZDS chair Vladimir Meciar submitted a CD with a list of all involved in the case to the Prosecutor-General office back in 2004. "Actions could have been taken. The question is why nothing was done, probably there were other interests," pondered Jurena.

SMK proposes to compensate the clients of the non-banking institutions based on the legally determined coefficient and the amount of the invested sum. The maximum amount, from which the compensation will be calculated should be €33,000. The sum will then by multiplied with the coefficient, which will be set between 0.4-0.5.

The compensation should concern clients of non-banking institutions Horizont Slovakia, B.M.G. Invest, Drukos, BDV Druzstvo, Autodrukos, AGW Holding, AGW and Sporoinvest.

SMK will submit its proposal at the Parliamentary session on March.
