Bratislava, November 26 (TASR) - Slovak universities have great potential vis-a-vis knowledge, but aren't applying this enough, as co-operation between Slovak universities, the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) and the business sphere is falling behind, said Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic at the beginning of a conference entitled 'Science, Politics and the State' in Bratislava on Thursday.
The conference is being organised by SAV under the auspices of Gasparovic. Education Minister Jan Mikolaj, SAV representatives and university rectors are taking part in it as well.
According to Gasparovic, Slovakia is well-educated, but isn't properly prepared technically. "I would like all students to have enthusiastic lecturers and academies excellent researchers," he said.
"The current economic crisis, which is characterised by a considerable deficit in public finances, has also effected decisions that we wanted to take (in this sphere), but this shouldn't curtail our ambitions to catch up with more developed states," stressed the president.
