Inflation Stood at 0.2 percent M-o-M and 0.4 percent Y-o-Y in January

Bratislava, February 12 (TASR) - Measured by EU methodology, consumer prices in Slovakia in January went up by 0.2 percent month-on-month and by 0.4 percent year-on-year, the Statistics Office announced on Friday.

Major month-on-month price hikes were recorded in food and beverages, with prices of fruit and vegetables rising by 6.8 and 13 percent, respectively. Alcohol prices went up by 0.6 percent month-on-month.

Conversely, gas prices eased by 4.7 percent m-o-m, followed by electricity prices, which fell by 3.1 percent. Clothing and footwear prices dropped by 1.3 and 0.6 percent, respectively.

On an annual basis, consumer prices went up by 0.4 percent, with inflation mainly fuelled by more expensive alcohol and tobacco (6 percent), healthcare (5.1 percent), and education (4.8 percent).

Conversely, furniture prices dropped by 3.9 percent y-o-y, while food prices fell by 3.5 percent.

Core inflation stood at 0.2 percent year-on-year, with net inflation reaching 1.1 percent.
