SDKU: Corruption Influencing Building of Social State

Bratislava, February 12 (TASR) - According to the opposition SDKU-DS party, corruption in Slovakia is high and still growing under the Government of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"In the World Economic Forum rating we were ranked 127th out of 133 countries. Slovakia has a bigger level of corruption than some African countries, Albania and Ukraine," said Miroslav Beblavy, former state secretary of Labour Ministry, who was introduced as an SDKU candidate in the upcoming general election by party chair Mikulas Dzurinda on Friday.
According to SDKU's economics expert Eugen Jurzyca, this high level of corruption has a serious impact on the creation of a social state and unemployment as well as a negative influence on potential new foreign investors.
Party board member and former justice minister Lucia Zitnanska stated that despite the fact that a system to restrict corruption is very well set in Slovakia, corruption is growing much more than in countries where the system is worse. "We have to resolve the level of corruption through clearer public procurements, by their reconstruction and through the publishing of contracts. This will narrow the scope for corruption opportunities," added Zitnanska.
