SDKU Files Complaint at Constitional Court over Election Fraud

Kosice, November 25 (TASR) - Regional SDKU-DS office on Wednesday filed a complaint at the Constitutional Court due to the election frauds that allegedly took place during the elections to the Higher Territorial Units (VUCs) in Kosice II election district on November 14.

According to SDKU-DS regional chairman for Kosice VUC Viliam Novotny, Slovakia hasn't seen such election fraud since 1989. "Ballots were taken out (from polling stations) in plastic bags before the end of the elections on the basis of instruction by Kosice-West borough (authorities)," stressed Novotny, adding that the ballots may have been used to benefit Smer-SD MRP (member of regional parliament) candidates and governor (Zdenek Trebula, who won re-election).

SDKU-DS is also calling on the mayor of Kosice-West borough - the election district where the incidents were reported - to resign from his post immediately and give up his political career.

"I don't know how many votes Trebula actually got in this election district (Kosice II), but the result of the election for the governor wouldn't change if we asked to have the election for governor repeated. This motion wouldn't pass at the Constitutional Court, so we aren't submitting it," added Novotny. SDKU-DS only asks the Constitutional Court to declare the first round of the VUC elections for MRPs in Kosice II election district as invalid and wants a new election to be organised.
