Janis Pooh-Poohs Meciar Remarks Addressing SDKU-DS

Bratislava, February 11 (TASR) - Opposition SDKU-DS whip Stanislav Janis on Thursday described the co-ruling LS-HZDS chief Vladimir Meciar's statements on chairman Mikulas Dzurinda – that his own methods are coming back to haunt him – as those from a retiring politician with nothing else to latch on to.
The SDKU-DS opposition parliamentary party is under police investigations over money-laundering activities publicised in connection with the party in recent weeks by Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"This is the way he had been doing politics and now it's backfiring on him. I hope that even if it is very sleazy it will all pass away and the country will get cleaner," Meciar told reporters earlier in the day.
Janis further stated that Meciar got enough (scandal) under his belt from the period of his governments ... be it the abduction of the former president's son Michal Kovac or the still-unexplained fatal explosion in 1996 of the car driven by former police officer Robert Remias.
"I think that Mr Meciar is finished and no one sets any store by his words," he said.
