Kosice City Transport Co. Sents Letter to Fico, Complains about Toll

Kosice, February 10 (TASR) - Kosice City Transport Company (DPMK) has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Robert Fico about the negative effects of the electronic road toll on the city transportation system, DPMK general director Michal Tkac told TASR on Wednesday.
Tkac says the tariffication of roads on Kosice's territory to be unjust, with as many as 11 sections of the city transportation system being tariffed, which makes 1.05 million kilometres per year. The yearly costs for the city hall have thus increased by €140,000.
Tkac noted that the Transport Ministry argued before the road-toll system was introduced (on January 1) that the system won't affect the budgets of municipalities. The DMPK therefore proposes to exempt the public transport from the toll, pointing to making the road transport more ecological and preferring the public transport to the individual transport, which are among the most basic principles of the transport policies both of Slovakia and the European Union.
