Bratislava, February 10 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic had pledged his support for the country's cash-strapped science and research sector in talks with the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) by backing scientific co-operation with top universities and respective ministries, his spokesman told TASR later on Wednesday.
Acting on the conclusion of the last year's conference Science-Politics-State that Slovak science, with its financial and personnel resources, cannot embrace all fields of science and research it was agreed that Slovak science should focus on a few priority areas in which they enjoy financial aid from the European Union and the state.
"We have outlined a further direction to follow in order to bolster the status of science and innovation, which are intended to bring Slovakia out of its current crisis condition," said Jaromir Pastorek, SAV chairman.
