Fico to Attend V4 Energy Security Session in Budapest

Bratislava, February 10 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico will lead the Slovak delegation at an extended plenary session of the Visegrad Four (V4) countries in Budapest on February 24, as approved by the Slovak Government on Wednesday.

The topics covered at the session will concern energy security, including crude-oil and natural gas transport, an early warning system mechanism, the inter-connection of electricity and gas transmission systems, as well as the North-South Energy Corridors vis-a-vis nuclear energy.

Apart from the V4 prime ministers (from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland), the session will also be attended by the premiers of Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, along with high representatives from the European Commission, the Spanish EU presidency and representatives from the U.S.A.

The main goal of the session is to strengthen co-operation with other EU-member states, the EC and partners in central and south-eastern Europe vis-a-vis energy security. Hungary expects this meeting to be the first step towards regular consultations between governments in the future and towards permanent expert discussion forums involving the countries attending the summit.

The V4 prime ministers are also due to meet for a working lunch prior to the session, at which Hungary will inform its partners of its programme priorities for its EU presidency in the first half of 2011.
