Bugar: If Broad Pre-election Coalition Emerges, Most-Hid Wants In

Bratislava, February 9 (TASR) - Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar showed restraint at a press conference on Tuesday when it came to the possible formation of a broad pre-election coalition of opposition parties before the general election set for June 12.
If there were a will among all opposition parties to sign such an agreement, Most-Hid wouldn't want to remain on the sidelines, assured Bugar, adding that if such a coalition really were to be formed, consensus on a joint programme would be inevitable. "I suppose that economic issues could be agreed on very quickly, but Slovakia also has other problems. I'm not only referring to anti-corruption measures, but also to healthcare issues," he pointed out.
When it comes to the possibility of co-operation with the ethnic-Hungarian SMK, from which Most-Hid split last year, Bugar noted that the party that he used to chair refuses "even to negotiate about joint proceedings", even though SMK isn't satisfied with the current governing Coalition. "SMK on one hand strongly criticises the current Government ... but on the other, it flirts with the idea of going into a governing coalition with Smer," he said, stressing that Most-Hid refuses to countenance co-operating with the most-probable election-winner Smer-SD.
Most-Hid and the Civic Conservative Party (OKS) agreed on Tuesday that they will run in the general election on the same ticket, but that's as far as co-operation goes for the moment.
