Bratislava, February 9 (TASR) - Slovakia supports the Moldovan Government and the pro-European policies and reforms it has committed itself to, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said after meeting his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca on Tuesday.
"We understand the processes that Moldavia is currently undergoing, because we went through the same path," said Lajcak, assuring Leanca that Slovakia stands ever ready to share its experiences from all areas of reform-making and transformation. "Slovakia of today represents a successful example of reform process," he added.
Moldavia also receives aid via micro-grants or developmental aid, said Lajcak, voicing his pleasure on the fact that the aid has stayed at the same level as last year - namely, €150,000 per year.
Leanca said that Moldavia is a grateful receiver, with the financed projects bound to have a positive impact on its people. Leanca regards his visit to Bratislava as important, because the previous Moldavan governments paid little attention to maintaining a dialogue with Slovakia.
He pointed out that his country finds itself in a difficult situation, as it stood out being the only European state in where communists returned back to power by way of the ballot box. As a result, Leanca said, the economy system has been broken down with Moldavia becoming one of the poorest countries in Europe. "The task of the new Government is to bring Moldavia back on track of development and economic growth," he claimed, adding that Moldavia looks forward to its clear future within the European family.
According to him, Moldavia intends to set foot on this path by setting out realistic goals, with one being to engage the EU countries in a dialogue on visa-free regime. Leanca also conveyed his conviction that EU can play a significant role in resolving the Transdniestria conflict. In this respect, he appreciated the stance of the Slovak Government on the issue.
