One-month Delay in Completion of D1 Financial Matters Announced

Bratislava, February 5 (TASR) - The completion date for settling financial matters concerning the construction of D1 motorway via public-private partnership (PPP) will be postponed by one month to the middle of March, Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Lubomir Vazny told TASR on Friday.
There are two reasons for the delay. One is the need to tie up some loose ends with the European Investment Bank (EIB); secondly, the Government has approved a relevant amendment to the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (EIA).
"Basically, one of the problems is the approval of the law today (Friday), for it's related to certain environmental issues regarding the D1 and its PPP (public private partnership) parameters," said Vazny. He noted that although environment impact assessments have been concluded, some issues need to be discussed in more detail with the European Commission.
The delay is also due to some outstanding issues with EIB, which is slated to provide about half of funds towards the motorway project worth €2 billion.
Vazny noted that EIB has approved allocation of the funds, but talks between the bank and the Slovak Cabinet concerning state guarantees are still under way.
