Government Approves Six Nominees as SPF Council Members

Bratislava, February 5 (TASR-SLOVAKIA) - The Slovak Government on Friday approved six candidates as representatives for the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) Council.

Agriculture Ministry nominated Jozef Lalo, Jozef Kubinec, Viliam Hoferica, Jan Turcek, Anton Martvon and Maria Frindrichova for the posts, which was approved by the Government. Slovak Parliament will vet the appointments during its ongoing session this month.

Six members of the SPF council are nominated by the Government, and the remaining five by the parliamentary Agriculture Committee. Of these five members, three are representatives of the governing Coalition, while the remaining two posts can be occupied by Opposition candidates. All 11 nominated candidates have to be selected by Parliament.

Parliament dismissed the six members of the SPF Council who were nominated by the Government and another three nominated by Parliament early in December. The other two representatives who represented the Opposition in the 11-strong Council had resigned their posts earlier. Prior to this, the Government dismissed SPF general director Miroslav Mihalik (a Smer-SD nominee) and his deputy Adrian Sandorcin (LS-HZDS). The dismissals cane in the wake of scandals concerning the transfer of land in Velka Lomnica and Stara Lesna (both Presov region) to land restituents.
