Bratislava, February 5 (TASR) - Co-operation between extra-parliamentary Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party and leading Opposition SDKU-DS party ahead of the June 12 parliamentary election is not ruled out, SaS chairman Richard Sulik and SDKU vice-chair and candidate for party election leader Iveta Radicova concurred for TASR on Friday.
The two officials spoke after their meeting late on Thursday that was initiated by Radicova with the SDKU-DS presidium's consent. "They were talks concerning possible ways of co-operation between the two political parties. The talks were constructive, and we agreed that we would first inform our (party) political bodies and then the public," said 2009 presidential election runner-up Radicova.
She added that there's "quite a reasonable hope and options for future co-operation."
Sulik noted that the talks brought clarification regarding some issues, while possible election coalition between SDKU-DS and SaS under Radicova's leadership was also addressed at the talks. "We also discussed SDKU party's financing, and this will certainly influence our decision," said Sulik.
He was reticent to elaborate on further details of the meeting. "Not just myself, but our Republic Council, which will have a session on Tuesday evening, is authorised to speak about these issues," he noted.
Radicova and another SDKU vice-chair Ivan Miklos announced earlier this week that they would vie for leading the party to the plebiscite. Radicova's and Miklos's moves came in the wake of SDKU chairman Mikulas Dzurinda's announcement on Monday that he won't appear on the party list for the parliamentary elections, but will remain party chairman.
