Bratislava, February 5 (TASR) - New five pandemic flu A(H1N1) cases have emerged in Slovakia this week, increasing the overall number of cases since the flu outbreak to 1,181, the Public Health Office (UVZ) reported on Friday.
Most cases were reported in Bratislava region, followed by Nitra and Kosice regions. The number of fatalities related to A(H1N1) has now gone up to 49, however, in the majority of cases there are other medical problems involved.
As of Friday, vaccinations against the flu strain are available also for the general public. As much as the inoculation is crucial to primary care staff, their interest in getting vaccinated has been low, says UVZ.
Acute respiratory illness (ARO) cases have risen by 11.2 percent week-on-week, with 13.5 percent of all these cases being flu illnesses. Overall, 7,924 Slovaks were diagnosed with flu last week, increasing the sick rate week-on-week by 17.4 percent.
