LS-HZDS Reissues Call for Easier Unemployment Benefit Conditions

Bratislava, February 4 (TASR) - People who have been insured against unemployment for two out of the past three years and lose their job should be entitled to receive the benefit, claims LS-HZDS party, submitting their amending proposal to the Government's amendment to law on employment services on Thursday.

"The situation on the labour market is not stable, so that we're bringing this proposal," said head of Parliamentary committee for social affairs and Housing Jozef Halecky at a briefing, adding that he expects support from HZDS's coalition partners Smer-SD and Slovak National Party (SNS).

According to Halecky, there are too many unemployed people in Slovakia, who don't meet the current "hard conditions" of having been insured for three out of four past years. Thus, they are not entitled for the benefit. If HZDS's proposal passes in Parliament on Thursday, there would be by about 50,000 unemployed Slovaks more per year entitled for the unemployment benefit, claims Halecky.

[A similar proposal has put forth by Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Viera Tomanova last year, but it has been deemed too costly - ed. note].
