Bratislava, February 4 (TASR) - Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico thinks the Slovak Society Development Strategy – being developed by the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) – has to have a more social and human dimension rather than focusing on economic matters, he said in Bratislava on Thursday.
"The focus has to be put mainly on a person, and on how we imagine their prospective quality of life in 10, 20 or 30 years - also on how people will live in such a time horizon," said Fico.
"The strategy cannot have solely economic and financial dimension. It cannot be only about the future economic growth in Slovakia, because that is only one of the means how to reach the goal. We feel under pressure from the global economic crisis and from the age that we live in ... we perceive everything through the prism of economic growth, inflation, deflation and similar indicators," explained Fico.
He wants the experts to work on a strategy to incorporate the Treaty of Lisbon into the document. "(The Treaty) speaks about the European space as a space of social market economy, with much emphasis put on full employment, social development and environmental protection. This is why I asked for these goals to be incorporated into this material," said the Premier, adding that the material is otherwise in very good shape and only minor shortcomings are being cleared up now. "It's a document with great scientific value and I hope that the Slovak public will treat it that way," he added.
