Bratislava, February 4 (TASR) - Former Slovak premier and Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) founder Jan Carnogursky told TASR on Thursday that he will be monitoring the presidential election runoff in Ukraine this Sunday as an observer of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano told TASR that the ministry is to dispatch five diplomats to oversee the much-expected duel between Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. "Two (diplomats) are members of the observer mission of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and three are national observers," said Stano.
Also, a 12-member mission has been sent to Carpathian Ruthenia (bordering Slovakia) by the Obcianske Oko (Civic Eye) non-governmental organisation. "Our observers have been going to Uzhgorod, Carpathian Ruthenia since 1999," TASR was told by Mirka Gucikova from Obcanske Oko (Civic Eye). In addition, this NGO has two long-term observers in Ukraine that are active within the European Network of Election Monitoring Organisations (ENEMO).
