SDKU-DS: State to Lose €144 million Over Road-Toll System in 2010

Bratislava, February 3 (TASR) – Slovakia is to lose €144 million this year over the new electronic road-toll system, strongest opposition party SDKU-DS vice-chair Ivan Miklos said at a press conference on Wednesday.

He said this in reaction to Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny's claims that the new road-toll system is profitable. Vazny claimed that the state will make almost €100 million per year on the toll.

"Mr. Minister did not lie about the numbers, he just did not tell everything," said Miklos, explaining that Vazny did not include all the losses expected in the state budget for 2010 in the equation".

According to Miklos, the revenues from the road-toll system should total €180 million this year. The budget losses connected to the system, however, will be as much as €320 million. The cancelled motorway stickers for lorries will cost the state €47 million. Another €87 million will be given to the road-toll provider SkyToll.

Government's concession, which means lowering of the excise tax on diesel and the postponement of first-class roads' tolling, should lower revenues by a further €190 million.
