Premier Fico Talks With Mayors About Towns and Roads Development

Brezno, November 24 (TASR) - Development of towns, road infrastructure and the use of European Union funds were topics dominating the meeting between Slovak Premier Robert Fico and representatives of Banska Bystrica local government held in Brezno on Tuesday.

Fico said he concurred with mayors on the opinion that although the Upper-Hron area will not be directly connected with the R1 road, the area will surely benefit from the link completion through public-private partnership (PPP) project. "Nitra - Banska Bystrica connection will be quite important," said Fico.

Brezno mayor Jaroslav Demian agreed that connecting the towns of Banska Bystrica and Zvolen, therefore the entire Upper-Hron area, with Nitra and Bratislava via highway network holds strategic importance in the Upper-Hron development.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the use of EU funds by towns and villages in the region. According to Demian, Brezno has been using the funds to finance reconstruction of a primary school building. "We also submitted a project to construct a duct and sewerage system in one town district," said Demian.
