Bratislava, February 3 (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico will lead the Slovak delegation at the extraordinary session of the EU Council that has been summoned by its President Herman Van Rompuy for February 11, the Government decided on Wednesday.
Prime ministers and heads of EU states are set to hold informal talks on the steps that need to be taken to pursue economic renewal following the global economic crisis, which is now believed to be gradually waning.
The talks are expected to give a boost to the drawing up of a new strategy for growth and employment entitled "Europe 2020", which should replace the ten-year-old Lisbon Strategy. The new strategy is due to be dealt with, and possibly approved, at an EU summit in March.
At the extraordinary EU Council next week, top representatives of EU-member states are also scheduled to discuss climate change issues, based on the conclusions of the global UN conference that took place in Copenhagen in December of last year.
