Bratislava, November 24 (TASR) - Slovak Environment Minister Jozef Medved on Tuesday met Austrian Ambassador to Slovakia Helmut Wessely, Jana Kaplanova from the ministry told TASR on the same day.
Medved and Wessely discussed the linking-up of the Druzhba oil-pipeline network to the Austrian OMV refinery in Schwechat. Medved said that as far as the Schwechat pipeline is concerned, he will take steps that will have the full support of the Slovak Government, while the concerns of people living in the area (that the pipeline should cross) will be also taken into consideration.
Both sides have agreed to negotiations at expert levels.
Referring to the United Nation Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, the Minister noted that Slovakia will defend interests that are linked to the development of individual countries and that stem from Slovakia's obligations from the Kyoto protocol. "We'll support the 30-percent threshold for a reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases in comparison to the level of emissions in 1990, and at the same time we think that the continuity of the Kyoto protocol should be preserved," said Medved.
Both sides praised existing co-operation based on international agreements and agreed that relations are friendly. They expressed their conviction that this will continue in the future.
